Kids with mad skillz

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 27, 2007, 4:19 PM

I'm afraid my new found interest in acting will be like that time I tried to take up ballet when I was 19. It was just impossible! Why? I'm too old! I am 19 at the dancing level of most 3 year olds. I can't bring my leg up to my head, and these 3 year olds can only because they do not have much leg to do this. Anyone else my age has 17 years experience on me, so I just couldn't perform this way. I did in the end get more flexible, more graceful, and lost 5 pounds. (Still the fattest ballerina you'll ever meet).

Soo, is it possible to learn to act at 20? I feel like I should have been better prepared as a child to grow up. If you do not master something by age 10 is it hopeless to try?

Everyone I know that acts has been acting since age 5, has been in every single school play, and most likely goes to school for it. I went to art school and there was this big theater program (I mean 40,000 dollars a year... to become an actor? I sure hope this school produces more denzels than it does off-off broadway backups)

I wish I had discovered fashion photography when I was 5, you don't here about 5 year old photographers. I would have been a child prodigy!! It needn't neccesarily be very greatly composed pictures, but everyone would recognize my eye for beauty, and I'd get bonus points for being cute and 5 (and I was not the rowdy 5 year old, I was very worldly and had a huge vocabulary.) It's like that little girl I saw on Jay Leno who paints the kind of pictures you see at dollar stores. (Boring, cheesey, elaborate scense of mountains houses and garden. Very bob rossish) It was the mere fact that she was 7... and what other 7 year old paints a house in the forrest and makes it look so painterly. No most 7 year olds I know would make the trees in the forrest neon colors and the house would be a shack and it wouldn't be in proportion with the rest of the painting.

So if I was a child fashion photographer prodigy, I would probably have ended up assisting steven meisel by age 7 and getting cooed at by all the super models. But I'm 20 and like every oither desperate wannabee photog T___T

That's why when I become a mother (no I'm not like one of these young girls that can't wait to get knocked up, I have a good decade on me..) I'm going to equipt my children with MAD skillz. Science, piano, accordian, ballet, sword fighting, calculus, saving lives, feeding the homeless, fashion photography, pottery.... all by the time they can walk (or earlier... they make baby sized violins, and there is this silly gym near me for kids and they have classes for infants - who need to lose their baby fat. Yes they have baby yoga...)

Many will tell me that exposing your kids to many things will have no effect on them as their small brains don't absorb much. I beg to differ. If you take your child to yoga classes at the baby gym and you find the baby in it's crib saluting the sun and mastering the cobra, you know you've done something right.

My kids will also be trilingual, highly literate (every five year old should have the arabian nights and some jack kerouac for a bit of 'light reading';) and well traveled. Not to much totally fashionable and into barbies. (What... smart girls play with barbies too! There was a 6 year old master violinist in my university orchestra and during break she played with barbies. Plus, I played with barbies until I was 12. I really should have been mastering the stock though.)
